Receptionists are often the first point of contact in General Practice for patients; whether it be ordering repeat medications or answering any queries patients have concerning these medications.

Practices are developing members of the administrative team to take on this role as part of their daily tasks and identifying them as ‘Prescription Clerks’. The Prescription Clerk role is aimed at practice managers, receptionists and administrative staff with background knowledge and experience of Medicines Management within General Practice.

Collaboration between clinical and administrative staff is crucial to maintaining the quality and safety of prescribing. This training aims to further expand and develop the skills of non-clinical staff who wish to take a lead in this area and undertake the role of a ‘Prescription Clerk’.

After undertaking the training, learners will have an increased awareness of the process of repeat prescribing and the monitoring requirements for some common medicines.

The training will be held face to face, in your practice or location within your PCN (Primary Care Network) or at a central location, and will take approximately two hours. The training is available on the following days per week:

Tuesday 3:30 – 5.30pm

Wednesday 3:30 – 5.30pm

Friday 3.30 – 5.30pm

Initially the course will be catered to a maximum of six delegates. To register members of your team for the Prescription Clerk Training please contact Leeds GP Confederation Training at [email protected]
