Basic Clinical Skills for Health Care Assistants
This training is designed for Health Care Assistants (HCAs) currently working in general practice, who want to develop in their role. This course will help you expand your skill set and develop the confidence you need to progress in general practice.
At the end of this course, you will be able to competently complete patient care tasks in practice without direct supervision. Including:
- Documentation
- Manual blood pressure
- Urinalysis
- Phlebotomy
- Temperature
- Oxygen SAT’s and Pulse Rate
- Weight Height BMI
- Basic Lifestyle Advice
- When to alert Clinicians
This course is led by Julie Beer, Lead Nurse for Leeds GP Confederation. Julie has worked in general practice for the last 16 years and has introduced projects such as drive though flu clinics at scale, and children’s flu parties. Julie was awarded the Queens Nurse award in 2021. Julie’s first-hand experience will ensure that you receive the most relevant and practical knowledge you need to succeed.
This training is face-to-face, based in Leeds, to give you the opportunity to connect with and learn from colleagues in different practices.
Course details:
- Two initial full day training sessions – 3rd & 4th February 2026
- A month of mentoring experience in practice.
- An additional full day training post practical experience – 11th February 2026
